Review: I binge read the first four volumes back in 2021, right before the series premiered on Netflix and I loved it- like everyone else on the planet. These books are just so warm and wholesome and sincere and the characters seem to painfully real. What I love most about these books is that the teens in these books feel and act and talk and come across as real teens. Confused, unsure, shy, overwhelmed and growing and learning about the world and themselves. TV shows, films and often times books show teens in this unrealistic light. They are all cocky and sure of themselves and have such grown-up world views and problems and talking styles. The one that most endears these characters to me is just how incredibly real they seem.

I loved the first four books and the TV show.

Nick and Charlie and their friends have my heart.

So of course, Volume 5 had to be read.

This book is a little bit more serious. The kids are growing up and deciding on their next steps in the world and relationships. University is looming ahead and decisions need to be made. There is talk about some serious topics, recovery from an eating disorder (TW if you need it) and self-image, self-love, acceptance, intimacy and taking the relationship to the next level. All of it is done with such delicacy and heart and dealt with so well.

I love this book and it's people. I love the silliness, seriousness and the amazing inclusiveness in these pages and this world. Can't believe the next volume is the last in the series but I am happy to see Nick and Charlie and the gang go out in the world and live good lives.

If you haven't read Heartstopper yet, do it.

It will remind you of being a teen and falling in love for the first time.
