Image
Book: All the Rage Author: Cara Hunter Pages: 416 Read on: Kindle Read in: ~3 hours Plot Summary:  A teenage girl is found wandering the outskirts of Oxford, dazed and distressed. The story she tells is terrifying. Grabbed off the street, a plastic bag pulled over her face, then driven to an isolated location where she was subjected to what sounds like an assault. Yet she refuses to press charges. DI Fawley investigates, but there's little he can do without the girl's co-operation. Is she hiding something, and if so, what? And why does Fawley keep getting the feeling he's seen a case like this before? And then another girl disappears, and Adam no longer has a choice: he has to face up to his past. Because unless he does, this victim may not be coming back.  Things I Liked: 1. This book is gripping from the very first page. A man is stalking a young woman as she gets ready to leave the house with her friends for her Hen's Night. We don't know...

Book Haul: Books of November 2019 + Reviews.

Image
Hello!  Super late in sharing my super small book haul from November. For some reason, I didn't buy that many books in November. I just bought 2 books and received one review copy from a publisher.  I have read all of these books, so I figured I'd share my haul and my thoughts about these books.  1. The Last Seance Tales of the Supernatural by Agatha Christie: A collection of short stories from the Queen of Crime. Some of them dealing with the supernatural, well most of them were fairly eerie. Some of them were straight up crime stories with a hint of other worldly vibes. Creepy, atmospheric and perfect reading material for winter nights. I read this over the month of December. These were mostly stories featuring independent characters but I was also happy to run into some familiar faces- Poirot and dear Miss Marple.  4/5  2. My Father's Garden by Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar: This novella length novel is told in three parts.  ...

General Whimsy: Favourite Corner of Home.

Image
Hello!  This corner of my home is full of my books, all stacked pretty precariously atop each other.  Most of these are my unread books. I kept them front and centre, right in my line of vision so that I remember to pick them up soon enough.  Also seen here are some of my most beautiful books.  My Puffin Bloom Books.  My Famous Five Boxset.  I also have some dolls and other knick knacks around my books.  These handmade dolls in these darling outfits look so good sitting with my books.  I also tend to keep my newest books out here in this stack, once I've read the books they make way to my bookshelves.  I love that my books are such a big part of my home's decor.  The moment you step into my home, you notice my books. It's pretty much the firs thing you see and nothing makes me happier.  :)

2020 Reading Resolutions.

Image
Hello!  I am a big old resolution maker. (Like you didn't know that!)  I like setting goals and I try my level best to stick to them. It's nice to have a basic guideline to give some structure to my year.  Both in regular life and in my reading, I like having my goals set early in the year, the very beginning of January, so my year follows the goals.  2020 READING RESOLUTIONS///  1. READ 100 BOOKS.  100 is a good solid number, it's been my go-to goal when it comes to setting my Good Reads Reading Challenge. Every year I tend to surpass it. Which makes me inordinately happy. But even if I end up reading just 100 books, I'd be perfectly happy.  2. DNF BOOKS I DON'T LIKE.  I have the hardest time sticking to this goal, but already, in mere 7 days of 2020, I've put aside a book I wasn't enjoying. I started reading a collection of short stories, got 4 stories in and didn't like what I was reading, so I stopped. H...

Monday Moods: Monday Blues.

Open roads.  Ashoka trees, home to a lot of birds that come back home every evening.  The ceiling at the Cooch Behar Palace.  Loved the bright shades of blue used in the interiors of the palace.  The Gajoldoba Barrage.  Hello!  This first Monday of the year is rather blue.  I hope the rest of the Mondays in 2020 are brighter and happier.

Weekend Reads: What I am Reading in the First Weekend of 2020.

Image
Hello!  The first weekend of 2020 is here and my plans for this weekend is to chill and read a little bit.  This is my last weekend in the hometown, my longgggg vacation ends next week and I am sad about leaving here.  So this weekend I plan on spending time with my rents and get started on my packing.  I have to much to stuff back in my suitcases. God help me!  Or, more like Maa help me :)  But the little time I can spare, I intend of reading two books I am current reading.  1. The Monk as Man- The Unknown Life of Swami Vivekanand by Sankar: My family are big believers of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Maa Sarada and Swamiji. Their pictures have always been in our home and Ramkrishna Mission is where most of my father's side of the family have taken diksha. My father often quotes Swamiji, especially when it comes to matter of religious rigidity.  When I spotted this book at the local book fair, I knew I had to get it an...
