It is that time of the year again! The one where we revisit the books we're read and loved and share a Top 10 genre-wise list of recommendations with you!
So, without any further ado, let's get into our Top 10 Crime Thriller/ Crime Fiction Books of 2022!
1. The Christie Affair by Nine de Gramont is a wonderful mystery-in-a-mystery about the 11 days in 1926 when Agatha Christie went missing without a trace. Full review can be read here. If you enjoy historical fiction and mysteries, then this is a book you'll love.
2. The Maid by Nita Prose is a story about a neurodivergent maid, Molly, who works in a 5-star hotel and is pulled into the murder of an infamous guest. The book follows her journey to clear her name, make friends and live her best life. A off-the-beaten-track type of murder mystery with great characters as well. Read our spoiler-free review here.
3. The Appeal by Janice Hallett is an epistolary-ish book where two law students get to the bottom of a murder via interview transcripts, emails and other written evidence. This book is also a wonderful look at how group dynamics work and what drives people to do dangerous things. This book is a must read! Full spoiler-free review can be found here.
4. The Night Shift by Alex Finlay is a pacy, exciting, serial killer-based thriller book. When exactly similar murders take place 15 years apart in the same small town, the sole survivor of the first set of killings along with an FBI agent get together to solve this case. An interesting, not-very-predictable read. Full review can be found here.
5. The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard is a kick-ass book about a girl on a quest to expose and nail the guy, who viciously murdered her family. Written as a book-in-a-book format, this is an absolute must read! Full review can be found here.
6. Listen To Me (A Rizzoli-Isles Book) by Tess Gerritsen is the 13th book in the highly popular Rizzoli and Isles series. And, the best part is, you don't necessarily need to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one! Though, always good if you do read the previous ones, because almost all of them are good! In this book, when a respected nurse is killed in her home, it does not seem very cut and dried or simple! Rizzoli and Isles dig into the dead woman's life and realise that she was hiding a secret that could be what got her killed. Full review can be read here.
7. The It Girl by Ruth Ware is a split timeline narrative of the murder of a very popular Oxford student 10 years ago and the impact that it had on the lives of her friends ever since, especially, when the accused murder, who had always claimed his innocence, dies in prison! An interesting book about friendships, group dynamics, the urge and price one pays for just fitting in. Full review can be found here.
8. Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister is a time-travel-themed murder mystery where a mother, who watches her seventeen year old son kill someone, wakes up one day before the act and then one more day before and so on and so forth till she reaches the point in her past when the roots of the events leading to the murder could be found. A really interesting premise, an unpredictable and engrossing narrative. Full review can be found here.
9. The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith is the sixth book in the Cormoran Strike series and this time, the author, delves into the world of online fandoms, trolls and the whole enchilada when one of the writers of a popular online animated series is brutally murdered by, what one is led to believe, by a super fan or a troll. Strike and Robin get pulled into the deranged world of Twitter trolls and super fans as they race against time to stop this killer from committing more murders. Full review can be found here.
10. The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman is the third book in the Thursday Murder Club series. This time, the team solves a cold case and a ghost from Elizabeth's spy past also returns to haunt her! A really fun, good book this one is! Full review can be read here.
