Stationery Sunday: Midori Traveler's Notebook

Over on Instagram, loads of people ask us (my sister and I) about our Midori Traveler's Notebooks (these have very recently been re-branded to just Traveler's Notebooks). People are curious about what these are and where one can buy them and how they can be used. So, we thought we will do a, sort of, master post on what Traveler's Notebooks are and hopefully, answer some of these questions.

Traveler's Notebooks (TN) are a simple and completely flexible system. I say "system" because you can totally customize and personalize these notebooks to be what you want them to be- journal, art journal, calendar, planner, sketchbook or even better, a combination of all of these!

The beauty of the TN system lies in its simplicity. At a very basic level, a traveler's notebook is a piece of leather- the regular size (pictured above) measures H218 x W130 x D10mm- which has two elastics on the inside. Using those two elastics plus some connecting elastic bands, you could string together as many as 6 notebooks inside. These notebooks (called inserts) could be some of the many formats that are offered by the Traveler's Notebook company or can even be bought from sellers on Etsy, such as Pelle Studio or Paper Geek (plus many more.. but these are the ones we have bought from and can recommend).

It's been about a year and a half since I have been using the TN system and I simply love it! I use it for journaling, list making, sketching/ drawing and starting next year, I hope to also use it for planning. I love the simple and organic nature of the TN system and I love customizing it to my needs. I am not the most sophisticated user of the system and there are so many fabulous men and women who do such a great job with setting up their notebooks, optimally using them and decorating them. You just need to surf the #midoritravelersnotebook on Instagram to learn more.

I ordered my brown TN from The Journal Shop along with a new basic things like the connecting elastics, a few inserts/ refills. Apparently, eBay India also offers TNs, but I have not had a chance to check that out.

Midori/ Traveler's Notebook Company offers two sizes- Regular (pictured above) and Passport Sized (as the name suggests, it is passport sized and can hold notebooks of that size).

However, several Etsy artisans make their own TNs and offer more sizes, including conventional ones like Field Notes, A5 etc. So, if you don't want to go through the hassle of ordering standard Midori-sized inserts, then you could go for Field Notes sized (several brands offer little 3.5x5.5 inch notebooks of the same size as Field Notes) or A5 (multiple options, such as Rubberband, in India are available, just look at Flipkart).

The next post in this series, if you guys are interested, could be about the various fauxdoris (as the name suggests, these are TNs made by various leather and fabric artisans) that I have had a chance to use and experience. Let me know, if that is something you would like to see a post on!

Be back soon with more book reviews!

Have a good one, people!
