Weekend Watchlist: True Crime, Rom-Com, Horror Recommendations

Hello, hello,

Another weekend and another 'what to watch' post on this blog :)

Today's recommendations are a nice mixed bag of true crime, horror and romance! So, let's get into it, shall we?

Nobody Wants This is a rom-com that is an instant throwback to the mid-2000s! Not only because it stars millennial heartthrobs Adam Brody and Kristen Bell but also it is, basically, a classic rom-com. Has several laugh out loud moments and all the formulaic, trope-heavy things that defined the rom-coms in the early to mid-2000s.

Messed up, commitment-averse heroine- check.

Stable, nice-boy hero- check.

He falls first- check.

She falls harder- check.

And, like I said, lots of LOL-worthy moments, mostly stemming from the hero's extremely Jewish family and the heroine's messy-chaotic family.

This is not a perfect show but it is one of the better rom-coms one has seen in a while. Plus it has six very short episodes which I like. I am so over 50 minute long episodes. This is so easily binge-able and a chill show to watch over the weekend.

Streaming on Netflix and worth a watch, for sure. If you are a girlie who loved Seth Cohen, then you gots to watch it! I mean, for me the OC was allllll about Seth Cohen and it's no nice to see..a version of him all grown up and lovely.

Jailbreak: Love on the Run is a true-crime documentary that takes a deeper look at the jailbreak of prisoner Casey White by Prison Director Vicky White. It is a twisted love story that is shocking and makes little to no sense but is also tragic in so many ways.

Streaming on Netflix and is definitely worth watching.

Unsolved Mysteries Volume 5 has four episodes but each of them are really, really interesting, creepy and so good. Much, much better than Volume 4, for sure! The cases have a good mix between true crime, paranormal and some good old alien speculation. Really interesting!

Streaming on Netflix and is a must-watch!

Immaculate is a body horror movie and is riveting, unsettling and disturbing. It is not traditional horror but more in the creepy/ unsettling territory. Set in a convent in Italy, Immaculate follows the journey of American nun- Cecilia- as she settles into her new life away from home. However, things at this convent are not as they seem and soon Sister Cecelia finds herself caught in the midst of some pretty creepy shenanigans.

Streaming on Prime and is a perfect horror-y watch for this spooky month!

And now, we have saved the best for last. Truly!

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum is, possibly, the best television show of 2024!

When I tell you I am obsessed with this show and its characters, I am not even kidding you. I am soooooo invested in this story and these people and if this show doesn't have  happy ending...my mental health is going to take a nose dive.

I am not kidding even a little bit.

I came across this Pakistani show in the end of July, binged the first 8 episodes in one sitting and fell in love. It's a love story, a great one at that. Mustafa (whom I LOVE) and Sharjeena get married under duress and then we see this unlikely, almost mismatched pair slowly fall in love and become friends and lovers and soulmates. Alllll good things.

But more importantly this show is so incredibly well-written (by the writer of Humsafar) and the characters just seem almost painfully real. It shines a light on the hypercrisy and two-facedness of desi families. How money trumps everything. And how children are treated differently based on how successful they are. This show and it's story will strike a cord with you.

I honestly cannot recommend it enough.

Please watch it. It's up on Youtube, with subtitles.

Go watch it. I promise you'll love it.
