Blogmas Day- 16: Top 10 Indian OTT Fiction Shows

Hello, hello!

2020 has been the year of staying home and binging on web series and movies! So, like every year, I have rounded up the Top 10 Indian fiction OTT shows for 2020. These are, mostly, Hindi language shows with two Bengali shows also making it into this list.

Let's get into it!

Pataal Lok streaming on Amazon Prime Video was, in my opinion, the breakthrough series of 2020! We've reviewed it in detail here and highly recommend you watch the show, if you haven't already! It is not just a crime thriller but a full blown, searing social commentary on today's India and its many uncomfortable truths.

Panchayat also streaming on Amazon Prime Video is a funny and entertaining show about a young man from a big city, who moves to a tiny village when he takes up a job as the Secretary of the local village panchayat. The quirky characters, their shenanigans and the adjustment process our protagonist goes through makes this show a must-watch.

Asur streaming on Voot is a crime thriller. A ruthless serial killer is killing unconnected people and a team of CBI's best investigators are on the case. There is a mix of mythology and religious iconography in this show, which makes it different from the other run-of-the-mill crime thrillers.

A Simple Murder streaming on Sony Liv is a crime thriller + comedy in which a series of connections and coincidences led to chaos and murder. A very entertaining crime caper with some really great performances.

Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story also streaming on Sony Liv is another breakthrough web series of 2020! The stellar casting, brilliant performances- big snaps to Pratik Gandhi for his portrayal of Harshad Mehta, brilliant writing and the fabulous re-creation of Bombay in the late 1980s-early 1990s makes this show a absolute must-watch!

Churails streaming on Zee5 is a Pakistani web series about a group of women from different socio-economic classes, who band together to form a group to help other women trapped in violent or tragic domestic situations. Brilliant performances and great writing make this another stand-out show of the year.

Masaba Masaba streaming on Netflix is a fun, frothy show based on some true and some fictionalised events from the life of designer Masaba Gupta. This is the kind of light and fun show, which one can binge in a single sitting.

Tansener Tanpura streaming on Hoichoi is a Bengali crime thriller with a musical, historical twist. A famous musician has left Tansen's tanpura to one of his students. However, the clues to the hiding place of this famous musical instrument are hidden in music-related riddles. A musically talented young man, Alaap, intrigued by these clues, starts solving them and in the process finds out old secrets and scandal. A really nicely made, performed show that is unpredictable and thrilling. Do watch!

Lalbazaar streaming on Zee5 is a Bengali (also dubbed into Hindi) crime thriller series, which follows a team of Crime Branch detectives from the historical Lal Bazaar police station in Calcutta, India's first police station housing the homicide department in British India, as they solve cases whilst dodging influential goons. A gripping cop drama with very, very good actors. Do watch!

Taish streaming on Zee5 is a family drama/ thriller, which deals with the consequences stemming from the lack of impulse control. A professional, upper class Indian family in the UK finds themselves in the middle of a nightmarish situation, when the head of the local Punjabi mafia is found beaten to almost-death at their son's sangeet ceremony. Taish is a different and pretty interesting thriller. Do watch.
