Friday Favourites: Recent OTT Series + Movies We've Loved {Blogmas Day-2.}

 Hello, hello,

It's Friday!

That means, the weekend is here for us to binge some really amazing OTT content!

Without further ado, let's get into some of our recent faves across different OTT platforms...

1. Chup (Zee5)

In Chup, a serial killer is brutally murdering film critics using lines from their own reviews. So, one critic gets "ruthlessly cut" while the other ends up "all over the place" and, well, you get the idea!

Who is this killer and why is he killing film critics?

Sunny Deol as the ace homicide detective and Pooja Bhatt as a criminal psychologist are on the case! BTW, so good to see both after such a long time!

A pretty good thriller film with stellar performances from Dulquer Salman and Sunny Deol! Worth a watch for sure!

2. Bodh (Hoichoi)

Bodh (conscience in Bengali) is a gripping and nicely written show about justice and not being afraid of facing off against more powerful people in the quest of that justice!

Retired judge, Alamgir, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and in his dreams he keeps seeing his wife's accident (she was killed in a hit-and-run 25 years ago) and the face of an unknown young man asking him to do right by him.

To ease his mind, his daughter, Sraboni, sets off to find who this young man is and why is her father's brain linking him to the death of her mom?

A really great show! Definitely worth watching!

3. Cold Case (Prime Video)

Cold Case is a TV show from 2003 and it was just a lucky break that we found it whilst surfing for things to watch on Prime Video!

As the name suggests, this show follows detectives from Philadelphia's homicide team whose primary focus is solving cold cases. There are unsolved cases from as early as 1929 to as recently at 2002 that have been solved by the team.

We are three seasons in (there are seven seasons of the show) and we've loved every single episode! Highly recommend if you enjoy crime shows and police procedurals + cold cases!

4. Tanaav (SonyLiv)

Tanaav is the official adaptation of the Israeli show Fauda and deals with showcasing both sides of the Kashmir situation.

If you enjoy political/ military/ conflict type thrillers, then one is worth a watch.

5. Severance (AppleTV)

What if you could severe your home life from your work life? What if whilst you were at work, the outside world ceased to exist and vice versa? You'd never have to bring your work home or your home stressors to work!

That's what this show gets into and it is simply brilliant and worth a watch!

6. Bad Sisters (AppleTV)

Bad Sisters follows the lives of the five Garvey sisters and the decision made by four of them to do away with 'The Prick'- John Paul- the controlling and manipulative husband of their sister, Grace.

Do they get away with it? Do they get caught?

Follow this insanely well written show to find out!

7. Inside Man (Netflix)

Created by Stephen Moffat (half of the iconic due that brought us Sherlock), is this hilarious yet tense show about misunderstandings and miscommunication leading to killer consequences.

At just four episodes, Inside Man is a quick binge and has a stellar cast led by Stanley Tucci and David Tennant.

8. Kumari (Netflix)

Kumari is a Malayalam horror fantasy movie. It follows the story of Kumari, a sweet and simple girl, who marries into a wealthy family and finds out that they have some gnarly secrets of their own!

If you enjoyed Tumbadd, then this movie should be an absolute must-watch for you!

9. Somebody (Netflix)

Software genius Kim Sum designs Somebody, a dating app to help the introverted and lonely find perfect companionship. However, she finds out that a ruthless and cunning serial killer is using the app to find new victims and she must risk everything to stop him.

At only nine episodes, this is a very binge-able show!

10. 1899 (Netflix)

Last, but definitely not the least, is 1899. From the makers of the mind-bending and highly acclaimed series Dark, comes another mind-bending show about reality and time and all of that good stuff.

Set in 1899 (what else?), this show starts with the passengers aboard a ship traveling from London to New York. Their journey is diverted when the crew receives a distress signal from the Promethus, a ship that has been missing for about four months. When this ship reaches the co-ordinates of the Promethus all they find is one mute kid and no one else.. and then, things start going wrong.

Intriguing, right? Definitely worth a watch!

Have a great weekend, folks!
