Blogmas Day-18: Top 10 Indian Movies of 2024 (Hindi, Malayalam and Bengali)

 Hello, hello!

This year has been a bust as far as the Indian movie scene was concerned (for us). We watched a few good ones, though and so, are sharing those as solid recommendations to enjoy over a long weekend!

Laapataa Ladies (Lost Ladies): Hands down, the best movie of the year! Won't be writing much here because we have a whole post about it. Read it! :) Streaming on Netflix.

Kill: A gory, thrilling, slick action flick that's made in India! Fast-paced and so, so, so thrilling. Streaming on Netflix. Watch it!

Stree 2: A sequel that is not a sophomoric disaster! Yes, please! This movie takes us back into the Stree universe, except, we have a new villain and also, some new allies. A fun, spooky watch, for sure! Streaming on Prime Video.

Munjya: A nicely made horror movie inspired by the myth/ legend of the Brahmadaitya- the belief that if a Brahmin youth days within 14 days of his sacred thread ceremony, he becomes an evil spirit/ entity. Highly recommend this little movie- scary, funny with a lot of heart. Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

CTRL: A techno-horror on the perils of AI "friends". Very topical, nicely made, smart and well-acted in! Streaming on Netflix.

Tarokar Mrityu (Death of an Actress): A Bengali crime thriller about a writer, his affair with an aspiring actress and her sudden death and some mysterious happenings post that. A taut and interesting thriller. Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and Adda Times.

Anweshippin Kandethum (Seek and You Shall Find): A wonderful thriller/ murder mystery with two unconnected, but equally good, murder cases! A police officer has to redeem himself and solve a cold case to get reinstated after a suspension. Amazing police work and really nicely made! Highly recommend. Streaming on Netflix.

Madgaon Express: A buddy caper movie that, finally, gets it right! Three childhood friends decide to take their much-planned, much-anticipated dream trip to Goa. Except, things go very, very wrong and the three buddies spiral into chaos and get entangled with a bunch of smugglers! Really hilarious! Streaming on Prime Video.

Amar Singh Chamkila: A really well-made, interesting biopic about a raunchy, folk singer from Punjab. Watch it to learn more about a cultural movement that is so wonderfully grassroots and for a brilliant performance from Diljit Dosanjh. Streaming on Netflix.

Kakuda: A horror-comedy about an evil entity haunting a village in Rajasthan and killing anyone, whose door was open at 7 pm on certain nights. A mystery and a horror-comedy wrapped in one. A good time-pass movie. Streaming on Zee5.
