Blogmas Day-5: Top 12 Documentaries of 2024

 Hello, hello,

Today, we will be sharing our Top 12 documentaries of the year.

This year was a major non-fiction viewing year for us. Somehow, movies and series (fiction) across languages were so disappointing! Anyhoo, let's get to it!

1. Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? is a heartbreaking, thought-provoking and very nicely made documentary about the dual abduction of cousins- Lyric and Elizabeth from a small town in Iowa. This was a rare case of double abduction and the documentary delves into theories, possible suspects and even unearths a few interesting connections with other cases. Highly recommend. Streaming on Jio Cinema.

2. Worst Ex Ever & Worst Roommate Ever are two amazing and scary documentaries about horrible exes and terrifying roommates. This is episodic and so, there are multiple horror stories shared by those who have experienced these! Streaming on Netflix.

3. Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter is an amazing documentary and story of a mother's quest for justice for the disappearance of her daughter from the home of her adoptive parents in 1989. Highly, highly recommend. Streaming on Netflix.

4. Jailbreak: Love on the Run is an interesting story of a woman, who gives up her life on the straight and narrow path for love. Or was she manipulated by a master criminal? You decide :). Streaming on Netflix.

5. What Jennifer Did is a very interesting story of a young Asian girl, who did something out of character and drastic. Raises a lot of questions about parenting and pressure. Streaming on Netflix.

6. The Man with 1000 Kids is a horror story about a compulsive sperm donor, who has, apparently, fathered more than a 1000 kids all over the world! Watch it to believe it! Streaming on Netflix.

7. Unsolved Mysteries Vol. 5 was a huge improvement over Vol. 4! There was a mix of mysteries across paranormal, supernatural and very human crimes and such. A truly great collection this time around! Streaming on Netflix.

8. Chimp Crazy is just bananas! See what I did there? :) So, if you enjoyed (were appalled, horrified) by Tiger King, then this documentary about people obsessed with primates will be right up your alley! Streaming on Jio Cinema.

9. Wedding.con is a bunch of Indian horror stories about men, who conned women out of money and other things via marriage/ wedding apps! Really good! Streaming on Prime Video.

10. American Nightmare is a fantastic documentary about how women are, often, not believed by law enforcement. This is such a fantastic story of how it only takes one person's (a woman police officer in this case) instincts and beliefs to bring down a serial predator. Streaming on Netflix.

11 and 12. Homicide in New York and Los Angeles talks about multiple interesting crimes in both cities and how the cops solved them. These series have some really mind-bending, heartbreaking cases. Highly recommend. Streaming on Netflix.
